Process serving, formally known as Service of Process, is the act of personally delivering legal documents such as a summons, complaint, subpoena or other court document. Many states require the process server to be licensed, such as an Act Now Investigator, who is knowledgeable about the state or county legalities surrounding service of process. He or she also can provide proof that the papers were served, and if needed, file the paperwork for you with the courts.
